Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, or KSEEB, came into existence in the year 1966. The Board is entrusted with the responsibility of providing quality and standard education to its students. There are hundreds of Government and private schools that are affiliated to the Board. In the initial years, the number of students enrolled to the Board was not significant. But, it grew from strength to strength with each passing year. The Board strives to increase the education level throughout the state and ensures proper management to conduct various examinations of the Board. In order to improve the evaluation system and the result, the Board has set up a number of divisional offices across the state. This decentralization helps to cater to the specific needs and requirements of its students and they become able to get the support in their surroundings.
Karnataka Board conducts SSLC and various other examinations every year. Though the number of students enrolled to the Board was not very much in the early years of its inception, but the number grew rapidly in the last two decades. Now, every year approximately 8.5 lakhs students appear for the examinations conducted by the Board. The Board does also conduct a supplementary examination for all those students who do not pass in the main examination. The supplementary examination gets conducted in the month of June and all those who clear the examination, become able to continue their higher education in the same academic year that from July itself. This process was introduced in the country for the first time.
