Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, abbreviated as CISCE Board, is a private, non-governmental school education board. It is headquartered in New Delhi. The board conducts two examinations in India, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) as well as the Indian School Certificate(ISC). In the year 1956, the CISCE was set up at the meeting of the Inter-State Board of Anglo-Indian Education.
During this meeting it was finalized that the Indian Council will be set up for administering the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate’s Examinations in India. It slightly differs from CBSE and NIOS for not being a government sponsored board. The main motive behind the formation of the CISCE Board is to provide the high quality school education to its students. Every year the CISCE conducts the exam of ICSE for Class Xth and ISC for Class 12th and provides certificate to the qualified students.
The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, abbreviated as ICSE examination is a K-10 public board examination. This examination is for all those students who have just completed Class X. The students appearing for the examination have to take seven subjects, of which four subjects are compulsory and three subjects are optional.
The Indian School Certificate, abbreviated as ISC examination is a K-12 public board examination. This examination is for the students completing Class XII, equivalent to the end of the 4 year High School Program. Special focus is given on the English language. The candidate appearing for the examination must have English Language, English as one of their main subjects. And the students may choose either three, four or five more subjects to give exams for.
Any private candidate should not appear for the CISCE. Any student willing to appear for the examination, must come only through the English medium schools, affiliated to the CISCE. Except the Indian language paper, the medium of examination is English. The maximum mark of a subject is 100 and a separate pass certificate is provided containing the equivalent grades like almost all other national educational boards. In addition to CBSE and CISCE, almost all the states of India have their state board for high school examination.
CISCE conducts the Indian School Certificate ISC Examination every year in the month of February. Lakhs of students get associated with the CISCE in ISC or Class 12th every year.
