CBSE, or Central Board of Secondary Education, came into existence on 03rd November, 1962. Headquartered in New Delhi, CBSE is known as Government Board of Education. It is one of the two most important school education boards in India, the other being Indian Certificate of Secondary Education or ICSE. More than 10,000 schools are affiliated to the board from all over India. CBSE conducts the final examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 every year in the month of March. Around 25 lakh students appear in the exam every year, 13 lakh in 10th class examination and about 12 lakh in 12th class examination.
The first education board that was set up in India was the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education in 1921, which was under the jurisdiction of Rajputana, Central India and Gwalior. CBSE is a board of education for public and private schools that comes under the Union Government of India. CBSE affiliates all Kendriya Vidyalays, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private schools and most of the schools that have approval of Central Government of India.
